Martyna van Nieuwland (b. 1981) has been Music Meeting's new artistic director since October 2022. Martyna earned her stripes in several roles as founder and programmer of several jazz and other music festivals in Poland. After living in six different countries, it was time for her to settle in the Netherlands. Besides a love of music, Martyna has a fascination for neon lights, language, literature and photography. With van Nieuwland in charge, Music Meeting will be even more inclusive.
Cutting right across styles, genres and cultures, Music Meeting Festival had been providing a platform for over 35 years for the world’s best artists: musicians who have rarely or never performed in the Netherlands, with new projects or in special line-ups. During the festival weekend, Park Brakkenstein in Nijmegen is traditionally the setting for musical encounters, with over thirty concerts spread over three days. History The first edition of Music Meeting took place in 1985. Back then the festival was called the ‘1st Multicultural Dance and Improvised Music Meeting’, which soon became popularly known as ‘Music Meeting’. Up until 2003, Music Meeting took place in the Concertgebouw de Vereeniging and Stadsschouwburg Nijmegen. Since 2004, Music Meeting has taken place in the historical Park Brakkenstein, and the label ‘Festival’ has been added to the name. Music Meeting now enjoys a history that stretches back over 35 years, with a rich line-up of artists from all corners of the globe. True to tradition, Whit weekend in Nijmegen usually hosts Music Meeting Festival, the only exceptions being 2020 and 2021 because of the corona pandemic. “You created not just a festival, but a true meeting to share joy” - Susan Mayo "It was wonderful to play here, such great energy at this festival and it was so refreshing to see mostly female artists & bandleaders programmed for a change!" - Into Nijmegen
Location | Festival general | Staying the night in Nijmegen | Houserules | Questions Camping There will be no camping at Music Meeting Festival in 2023. We have to make this choice because the organization of Music Meeting - like many others - had to deal with a volatile year in which we had to set priorities. While would love to accommodate visitors' wishes to spend the night at a campsite near the festival, we have decided to focus on other areas of the festival organization.
