Ping Pong Piano
An adventurous musical encounter involving four star pianists from Cuba
From four sides
Music Meeting is introducing a new concept: Ping Pong Piano. The principle is simple: place two pianos on stage and let four star pianists from Cuba communicate with one another pianistically.
Those who listened to Ping Pong Piano heared a wonderful cross-section of Cuban piano music today, from four sides! Marialy Pacheco, a true concert pianist, achieved renown for her duets with Omar Sosa and her catchy rhythmic playing. As the founder of timba, modern Cuban salsa, Grammy-winner Ivan ‘Melón’ Lewis contrasts that with his almost mathematical precision. Ramón Valle weaves in and out of styles and feels at his best when given the freedom to let his Cuban roots envelop the music. Completing the quartet of star pianists is the whirlwind Rolando Luna, one of the most important Cuban pianists of the past decade, who enjoys worldwide acclaim for his work with Omara Portuondo.
Masters in harmony
In Ping Pong Piano, each pianist put aside his CV and engaged in spontaneous combinations, friendship, rivalry, confrontation and harmony.
