Alain Pérez y la Orquesta
A musical genius and a luminary on the salsa, Latin jazz and flamenco scene.
Musical genius
Regarded as a musical genius, the Cuban bassist and singer Alain Pérez is a luminary on the salsa, Latin jazz and flamenco scene. That is remarkable for someone who is not of Spanish but of Cuban origin. There is little that Pérez cannot do when it comes to music. That was clear from an early age, because even before he reached thirty he was a celebrated name thanks to his role as bandleader for the legendary singer Celia Cruz. He bolstered his reputation by playing for six years as regular bassist for flamenco great Paco de Lucia.
Alain and his orchestra
For years now he has had his own band, Alain Pérez y la Orquesta, making him one of Cuba's leading musical exponents. Latin Grammy winner Pérez is an expert in many fields. Educated as a bassist and guitarist, he also sings, plays piano and percussion, and works as a composer, arranger and producer. Performances in the Netherlands are very rare. Which is strange, given his remarkable style, versatility and impressive performances. You seldom see someone play and sing with so much feeling and emotion.
