Over Cuba Upside Down
“I wish I’d been born in Havana in 1920...
...so I could have grown up with the son, mambo, and maybe even some early timba: modern Cuban salsa,” says artistic director Maite Hontelé. She actually grew up in an idyllic dike house by the River Waal in the village of Haaften. But she listened to Cuban music on cassettes almost daily and played along on her trumpet.
Cuba and beyond
The love of Cuban culture and music is deeply rooted, and this year the Music Meeting organizers want to share it with all festival visitors. With the theme Cuba Upside Down we’ll be welcoming both established names and emerging talents from the influential Cuban music scene. And, as usual, artists from all corners of the world will grace the festival as well.
All Ears Stage
This year, for the first time, there will be a Music Meeting All Ears tent on the central field, where small concerts, interviews, documentaries and lectures can be seen and heard. That means our online music channel All Ears will also be enjoyed offline during the festival!
