Martyna van Nieuwland is the new artistic director of Music Meeting!
As of October 1, we welcome Martyna van Nieuwland as the new artistic director and programmer of Music Meeting. She succeeds Maite Hontelé and forms the management together with general manager Sophie Blussé. Wim Westerveld, founder and programmer from the very start, will remain involved as an artistic advisor.
The Polish Martyna van Nieuwland is a new face in Nijmegen and the Netherlands. For the past nine years she has been Artistic Director of Gardens of Sounds Festival and JazzArt Festival, both in Katowice, Poland. In addition, she is or was involved in many different Polish and international events and organizations as an artistic advisor, organizer or board member.
“Of all the mottos on music, the closest to me are the words of Miles Davis ‘You should never be comfortable, man’. I see musical events as cultural game changers. Alongside the artistic quality, the broader context of music, the storytelling, is equally as important. This characteristic of Music Meeting has always made me keen to visit the festival. I identify with it and I want to serve the communities around the festival, as well as attract new audiences in the region of Nijmegen, and all over The Netherlands. And even abroad, such as I once discovered the festival. I’m very excited to my new professional and life path in the Netherlands and to be part of Music Meeting in this very new role.”
We are happy that she is charting the course for Music Meeting Festival from October 1st. Welcome Martyna!
