Joshua Murphy

Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Joshua Murphy was born in the 'outback' of Australia. Murphy moved to Berlin where he became involved in the local scene as a member of several bands, as a music promoter and club owner. In 2022, Murphy released his first EP Lowlands. The inspiration for this debut comes largely from his native country, but also from European funeral music and is played at a stately pace.

Lowlands contains dark ceremonial stories that are colored with atmospheric folk music, in which Murphy provides the sparse instrumentation of piano, synthesizer, guitar and cello. For this release, Murphy received critical acclaim in international media. They compared Murphy's deep baritone and singing style with big names such as Nick Cave and Leonard Cohen, while the music is related to dark apocalyptic folk, alt-country and murder ballads.
