Adam Ben Ezra
Virtuoso contrabassist you can't pigeon-hole
The experience of music
Contrabassists are regarded as introverts, people who support the rest of the band. And if they do suddenly get to play a solo, many listeners experience that as a musical interruption. The Israeli bassist Adam Ben Ezra does not meet that stereotypical image. A performance by him is an experience: he makes his contrabass sound like you’ve never heard it before: sometimes it sings or whispers softly, at other times it sounds funky and assertive.
Contrabass power
He began playing the violin at the age of five, and the guitar followed soon after, but at the age of sixteen he met his true love: the contrabass. After making his name in jazz circles he soon discovered the power of the internet. His renditions of the theme song of ‘Seinfeld’ and Michael Jackson’s ‘Billy Jean’ went viral. That quickly earned him a reputation as a solo artist, and he also crossed swords with big names like Richard Bona, Snarky Puppy and Pat Metheny. Adam Ben Ezra now has three albums of his own to his name, and he continues to broaden his musical palette now that he also brings a piano and a loop station with him on tour. Let this superb musician carry you away.
