NoSax NoClar
Two reed doublers like one voice that speak unforgettable things
Amalgamation of sounds
Close your eyes and you forget that NoSax NoClar consists of just two players. Bastien Weeger on various saxophones and clarinet, and Julien Stella on various types of clarinet. As the band name NoSax NoClar suggests, the two French musicians look for that point where the various instruments stop sounding like themselves and instead blend into a shared sound. And they succeed, thanks to their amazing ability and concentration, so intense that the experience of listening to them is just as intense.
Audible Calmness
Although both musicians play without percussion, the music is strikingly rhythmic, even swinging. What’s more, the perfect chemistry between this duo is so audible it enables them to musically switch direction in the blink of an eye. A groovy jazz segment can suddenly culminate in a Maurice Ravel-like classical piece, and from there into a hypnotic trance that reveals the strong influence and knowledge of Arabic music. But no matter how virtuoso, this is music that captivates audiences. Music that comes across as a deep human voice thanks to the wonderful sound this duo creates. A voice that talks to you calmly and casually yet wisely and probingly. Just close your eyes and you’ll hear it.
