Come celebrate what we have built together. In this special anniversary year, we return to where it all began during Pentecost weekend: the city center of Nijmegen. This year, we present a four-day event of musical encounters, from May 22 to 25. Familiar as always, but never the same.
What’s new?
After many unforgettable open-air editions in Park Brakkenstein, Music Meeting is moving back to the city center, where four top locations will open their doors for the festival. In collaboration with pop venue Doornroosje, the Stevenskerk, film theater LUX, Stadsschouwburg Nijmegen, and Concertgebouw De Vereeniging, Music Meeting presents a program full of international music, stories, films, workshops, and encounters.
Curious about what there is to experience?
From an Afro night at Doornroosje to an ongoing program of unique (lying down) concerts with Indian classical music in the Stevenskerk. And from a special concert program at Concertgebouw De Vereeniging —the place where Music Meeting started in 1985—to intimate concerts and short films at LUX. Check out the locations and discover which program(s) you don't want to miss.
The first names have been announced!
For three days, Music Meeting will be held during the day in and around LUX, with a program of concerts, films, and contextual events. Featuring, among others, the Netherlands-based Ghanaian jazz trumpeter and rising star Peter Somuah (May 23), the unique French 'ethno jazz' collective Lagon Nwar (May 24), and Belgian saxophonist Mattias De Craene, who blends his soundscape with traditional Gnawa music from the Black Koyo collective (May 25).
Doornroosje
On May 22, music from the African diaspora will set the tone at Doornroosje, featuring Nigerian multi-instrumentalist Mádé Kuti, who is following in the Afrobeat footsteps of his famous father and grandfather, Femi and Fela Kuti. A first in the Netherlands!
Stevenskerk
On May 23, the iconic Stevenskerk will be the setting for Indian classical Raga ( musical scales) late into the night, featuring renowned singer, musician, and storyteller Parvathy Baul from Bengal, among others.
De Vereeniging
On May 24, baritone saxophonist Esdras Nogueira, a leading artist in Brazilian instrumental music, will be part of a special concert program in the main hall of Concertgebouw De Vereeniging: the cradle of Music Meeting!
