When Beyoncé introducedher country-inspired album Cowboy Carter, the very first sound the world heard was Giddens' banjo. She played on the hit single "Texas Hold 'Em" — continuing her mission to highlight the deep Black roots of the banjo and reshape the instrument's place in modern music.
