History

music meeting

Between a Peruvian charango, a Korean drum, and a dance floor in Nijmegen lies something universal: connection. Between artists and audience. And worlds that find each other through rhythm, words, and sound. Music helps people understand one another. That is why Music Meeting exists: a multi-day festival featuring concerts, stories, films, workshops, and encounters. In Nijmegen. Since 1985.

Music Meeting brings the unknown closer. We program global music with boldness, curiosity, and an open mind. Across countries, cultures, and styles. From intimate concerts to exuberant jam sessions. From stimulating jazz to surprising improvisations. From centuries-old traditions to fresh crossovers. We create encounters that extend beyond the festival: between artists, audiences, and generations of music lovers.

We remain audible even outside the festival. Through educational projects and talent programs, where new creators and stories continue to resonate.

From the oldest city in the country, with the world as our source of inspiration. For music adventurers of all ages and backgrounds.
For those who want to experience, create, discover, or live the moment.

History
The first edition of Music Meeting took place in 1985. At the time, the festival was called '1st Multicultural Dance and Improvised Music Meeting', which quickly became known as 'Music Meeting'. Until 2003, Music Meeting was organized in Concertgebouw de Vereeniging and Stadsschouwburg Nijmegen. Since 2004, Music Meeting has taken place in the historic Park Brakkenstein and the label 'Festival' has been added.

Music Meeting now has a history spanning 40 years, with a rich line-up of artists from all corners of the world. From 2026 onwards, the festival will take place at various outdoor and indoor locations in Nijmegen.
