During the latest edition of the prestigious world music event WOMEX, Esdras Nogueira took the audience by storm with an explosive performance. With his funk-infused quintet, the Brazilian baritone saxophonist and producer presented instrumental pieces in which you could hear the spirits of Tony Allen, Elis Regina, and Joyce Moreno. Before going solo, Nogueira was part of the ska-influenced collective Móveus Coloniais de Acaju. In 2014, Nogueira made his debut with the album Capiveara, an ode to Hermeto Pascoal, who passed away last year. Nogueira could count on the personal approval of the legendary music wizard. On the album Transe, he gives Caetano Veloso's work a swinging instrumental twist. And whether it's samba, salsa, carimbo, jazz, or Afrobeat, Nogueira absorbs these styles into a fluid whole. There's no doubt that Nogueira will get the audience dancing at Music Meeting.
