With their impressive vocal prowess and folk influences, the South African project Ingoma Yesintu captivates music lovers with a vibrant performance. Led by bassist, composer, and arranger Zenzele Mthembu-Salter, this a cappella group is centered around six vocalists. Their stunning harmonies are accompanied by rich African grooves and rhythms. Drawing inspiration from a wide range of sources—African gospel choirs, classical choral traditions, traditional African songs, jazz, and improvisation—the musicians create a deeply layered sound. The group features conservatory-trained vocalists from around the world, including Portugal, Spain, India, and Korea. These diverse cultural influences shine through in their music, resulting in a richly textured and multicultural mosaic.
