Indonesian National Orchestra
- Sunday 19 May 14:40 - 15:30 (NIKKO)
A fascinating and hypnotic mixture of innovation and tradition
The striking, penetrating sound of the tarompet immediately puts you in a trance. The various traditional Indonesian percussion instruments create a sultry and pleasant pulse. Here the old and the new come together. The deeply penetrating sounds make it clear how far back in time the origin of this music lies.
At the same time it sounds hipper than hip, a national orchestra with ancient instruments that produces a unique kind of dance. Soprano Ni Putyu Satya Cipta Wardani has the voice of an angel. Under the eye of composer and bandleader Franki Suryadarma, music is forged that is organic and surprising. Danceable until the final note, and also steeped in tradition and history, meaningful without being heavy or pretentious. Let yourself be rocked and carried away: you will arrive somewhere you haven’t been before, but you will always keep longing to go back to.
