Pianist, composer, musicologist: this artist’s work takes many forms.
From the club to the conservatory: Eliane Correa seems to be in her element anywhere. She completed three different studies – classical piano, composition, and ethnomusicology – in as many countries. London knows the Cuban-Argentinian Correa as a bandleader, most notably for her six-piece band, Wara. Together they rock clubs through festive latin, packed with politically engaging lyrics. But at the same time she’s also the session pianist for “The World of Hans Zimmer”, an official production with music by the famous film music composer. True to her reputation, Correa will appear in different formations at this year’s Music Meeting. As one of our Artists in Focus she’ll be playing with several groups. She’ll perform with the string ensemble Fuse, she’ll join the uptempo salsa band Mercadonegro for a few tunes, and of course she’ll also be playing with her very own group Wara.
