Mercadonegro & Eliane Correa
Dancers love their uptempo salsa.
Dancers love their uptempo salsa.
From America’s Got Talent to the World Latin Dance Cup: Mercadonegro’s music is in demand with competitive dancers. And it’s no wonder, because this group makes some seriously danceable, uptempo songs. It all started with three Latin American musicians who, after emigrating to Europe, wanted to share their cultural heritage with the world.
The trio struck up a friendship with indie label Bibomusic’s producer, which led to their first album, “Báilalo!” (2002). Their music has it’s roots in Cuban tradition, but there’s jazz and 1970s New York salsa in there as well. Mercadonegro’s musicians are flown in from all over Europe. Only the best will do. The approach keeps them close to their origins as a group of migrants, and simultaneously enables them to maintain exceptionally high standards. And though you might think it would lead to a diffuse sound, the opposite turns out to be true: with Mercadonegro’s music all roads lead to Latin America. International influences are simply the icing on the cake.
Our Artist in Focus Eliane Correa will be joining them for a few songs at the festival.
