Bab L'Bluz
- Saturday 18 May 23:00 - 00:00 (NIKKO)
Hypnotic fusion of brooding blues and polyrhythmic funk
The eclectic Bab L'Bluz (literally 'The door of the Blues') is the groundbreaking brainchild of Moroccan singer/guitarist Yousra Mansour and French guitarist/producer Brice Bottin. Both have a great passion for traditional Moroccan music, such as gnawa and chaabi. Armed with their electric gimbri's (a lute-like string and percussion instrument), Bab L'Bluz brings a flaming and refreshing fusion of hypnotic French-Moroccan influences and Western styles such as brooding blues, psychedelic rock and polyrhythmic funk, which represents Arabic love poetry and musically support lyrics about freedom.
Their debut album Nayda! received rave reviews and major media such as The New York Times, Uncut and Vogue Arabia wrote enthusiastically about the band. In the meantime, the group continuously tours the world. At Music Meeting, Bab L'Bluz will honour traditional North African blues in a non-traditional way, straight from the Maghreb heart.
