Anderson, Bennink, Glerum & Van Kemenade
USA, NL | Beautiful, pure jazz by four grandmasters
Precious pure jazz from four grandmasters.
It’s the greatest art to make what’s difficult seem like child’s play. These four grandmasters of jazz excel in that, basing their music on a swing that is both subtle and light.
The elegant basslines of Ernst Glerum, the grooves and drum tricks by Han Bennink are such a delightfully matching rhythm section that both wonderful horn blowers feel at ease and seem to be in symbiotic harmony. Trombonist Ray Anderson and alto saxophonist Paul van Kemenade produce an instantly recognisable sound that resonates perfectly with the others.
This remarkably warm and graceful, earthly style combines vast musical knowledge and imagination in a quartet steeped in the tradition of jazz, drawing on knowledge of the past to make music so precious and pure that it sounds as if it came about that way by merely touching the instruments.
