MM Concerts - Tolyqyn
A name like Tolyqyn initially conjures up icy images of snow and ice, but then mesmerizing strumming takes the listener to warmer places. Yet it is not a blues guitar or African kora that you hear, but the viola of Roland Satterwhite. With his nimble trio he switches effortlessly between swirling griot music, bone-thin delta blues and gritty rock, whereby the spontaneous experiment is not shunned.
In guitarist Tal Arditi and percussionist Rafat Muhammad Satterwhite found not only equally enlightened minds, but also two instrumental heavyweights of stature.
Roland Satterwhite - Plucked viola & vocals
Tal Arditi - Electric guitar
Rafat Muhammad - Drums
