MM Concerts - Djely Tapa

She’s the daughter of the Malian star Kandia Kouyaté (Music Meeting Festival 2016!), whose magnificent voice she inherited.  But Djely Tapa was standing on her own two feet at an early age. University studies took her to Canada, where in 2019 she recorded her award-winning ‘Barokan’ with DJ AfrotroniX. Djely Tapa has a vision to make future-proof African music. In other words, desert blues and Mandinka folk mixed with rock guitars and electronica, along with stirring lyrics about current issues.
