Atmospheric fusion of different South African music styles and good old soul
Guitarist Joep Pelt chose a striking motto for a musician who travels a lot: home is where the music is. That is exactly the feeling the music of the group Soweto Soul evokes, it is music from far away, from the various townships of South Africa, but thanks to the familiar sound of soul, it is above all music like a warm bath, music that relaxes you, makes you arrive home.
That music is passionate, filled with resilience, optimism. Combative and loving at the same time. Music that does not exclude the listener, but embraces him or her, invites him or her to join in, to dance on the festival grounds of Music Meeting, to sing too, in your own way, exuberantly or modestly, it doesn't matter, everything is allowed to be there, everything and everyone is simply allowed to be there. Home is where the music is and the music is everywhere.
