Raw swing blues, vintage vaudeville style.
Rum Buffalo from London started as a street band, but lately the young group has been gracing an increasing number of Great Britain’s stages and festivals with a mash-up of raw roots music in a theatrical vaudeville style, including sax, trombone, and a (semi-)modular synthesizer.
The group’s sound isn’t just authentic, but also diverse. To give you a sense of how diverse: it’ll appeal to lovers of Morphine’s bluesy rock as well as Django Reinhardt’s gypsy jazz, Caro Emerald’s swinging pop as well as De Staat’s alternative rock, and New Cool Collective’s big band jams as well as Captain Beefheart’s avant-garde magic. And we haven’t even gotten into all the other styles seeping through, like old style swing, rock, electro, hip hop, ska, reggae, klezmer, soul, (afro) funk, and gospel. This summer marks the release of Rum Buffalo’s first album. The single Whisky on the Fire, a steaming blues brass firecracker founded on fiery, far out jazz rock, makes for an appealing appetizer.
