Incredibly intense exploration of the trumpet
An instrument can be a tough opponent. A demanding lover. A dear enemy. Some musicians are willing to go far in what the instrument asks of them. One person goes to extremes. The American trumpeter Peter Evans is such a person. Precisely on the trumpet – an instrument that has often been called a jealous mistress – Evans pushes the conceivable and finds unprecedented possibilities in sound and playing style.
He did this in groups such as Mostly Other People Do The Killing and Pulverize The Sound, sometimes going so deep physically during live performances that the public began to fear for Evans' health. But perhaps even more impressive are Evans' solo concerts. In it he treats the audience to an unprecedentedly intense exploration of the trumpet.
It is a titanic battle, a Greek tragedy in miniature. A man who has set himself the goal of extracting all secrets from the instrument that has fallen to him, regardless of the cost, the sacrifices that have to be made. To witness this as a public is an experience to cherish endlessly. And don't worry, what Evans brings out of the trumpet struggle is pure music.
