Divine singing rooted in centuries of Aboriginal tradition
Meet one of Australia's most beautiful voices. In northern Arnhem Land, the iconic Ngulmiya Nundhirribala leads traditional Aboriginal ceremonies. With a dazzling technique and soul-stirring expression, Ngulmiya transports you with his divine singing into songs and stories, rooted in centuries of traditions of his distant ancestors.
Ngulmiya sings in the Aboriginal language Wubuy, mixed with words from Indonesia and other Southeast Asian countries. During Womex 2023, the singer made a deep impression with an otherworldly performance. In addition to his phenomenal singing skills, Ngulmiya is a songwriter, dancer, teacher and artistic director of the Numburindi Festival and partner of the Australian Ballet and Bangarra Dance Theatre.
The concert at Music Meeting is Ngulmiya's debut on Dutch soil. During his performance, Ngulmiya will be joined on stage by Australian violinist Emma Williams, who lives in the Netherlands.
