Clube da Encruza

An enticing melting pot from São Paolo’s adventurous scene
Brazil – São Paolo, to be more precise – has spawned remarkable bands and projects for years. Clube da Encruza is one of those headstrong groups, where eight musicians (from Metá Metá, Passo Torto, and other bands) combine forces and each bring their own vision to the music. That results in an enticing melting pot, sizzling with pleasure and teeming with musical imagination. And the grind. All those different influences from diverging genres and styles.
All those rhythms and melodies, stubbornly pitted against each other. They clash. They clash in the best way, because everything isn’t smoothed over, and the personalities of the musicians shine through in the group’s sound. The music gets rough, echoing headstrong rock adventurers like Frank Zappa and Glenn Branca. But it can also tread lightly on sultry rhythms.
It’ll be oh so smooth, until it’s suddenly overrun by wild and reckless guitar play. It can sound danceable or devastatingly fierce, but underneath all that there’s always a fine-grained network of rhythmic and melodic cogs, grating, grinding, and gnashing away. Giving the listener a peek into a machine fueled by spontaneity.
