Nelson Ponce Sánchez

The official ‘CUBA UPSIDE DOWN’ poster for Music Meeting Festival 2022 was created in collaboration with the celebrated Cuban illustrator and graphic designer Nelson Ponce Sánchez.

Colorful design

Nelson was born in Havana, where at a young age he studied visual art at the Instituto superior de Diseño Industrial (Higher Institute of Industrial Design). His illustrations have appeared in various magazines and children’s books. Nelson has also designed numerous strikingly colourful posters. His most famous work is perhaps his poster for the animation film ¡Vampiros en La Habana!  

Inspiration and inspirator

Nelson finds inspiration in the work of Cuban designer Félix Beltran and other legendary graphic designers, among them Milton Glaser and Javier Mariscal. Besides being an illustrator and designer, Sánchez is an active participant in the Camaleón collective, which he and a number of fellow ISDI students set up in 2001.
