Rita Payés
Compelling Catalan talent on trombone and vocals
From Youtube to worldfamous
She’s just 22, yet she manages to captivate audiences all over the world: the Catalan trombone player and singer Rita Payés. The wider public discovered her on YouTube, where she attracted two million views with the number ‘Nunca vas a comprender’. But even before that she released her first album at the age of 16 and made a name for herself in the Sant Andreu JazzBand.
Payés likes to break down barriers between classical music and fado, bolero or a simple lullaby. And how remarkable is it that she plays trombone? That lets her instrumental qualities and passionate voice blend seamlessly. For her performance at Music Meeting she’s bringing along her quartet, with her mother Elisabeth Roma on guitar, Horacio Fumero from Venezuela on bass, and his compatriot Juan Berbín on drums.
Musical lionheart
Payés has all it takes to become a global star, for not only is she an energic personality on stage but she also composes more and more music of her own. That’s very clear on her latest album ‘Como la Piel’, for which she wrote and composed all the music. This old soul with the heart of a lion certainly was one of the highlights of Music Meeting Festival 2022 in Nijmegen.
