Esat Ekincioğlu
Genuine improviser from contemporary Mediterranean to punky free jazz.
Immersed in the bass
Born in Istanbul in 1990, Esat Ekincioğlu was 12 when he started to play electric bass. At the age of 19, he picked up the double bass. He relocated to Groningen to study at the Prins Claus Conservatorium and to become more proficient with this instrument.
Crossing boundaries
Ekincioglu is now a bassist much in demand and has performed at practically all the major jazz festivals. A genuine innovator, he likes to push the envelope with his instrument. Ekincioglu usually spends most of the year on the road, playing with such bands as the AVA Trio, which mixes contemporary Mediterranean music with jazz, and the equally international and much-loved punky speed-jazz quartet Kuhn Fu, which has three albums to its name.
