Venegas has a deep fascination with water, which she regards as the magic of life. From the very beginning,*Ur*was conceived as a living, organic installation in which sound and image arise from the same source. Central to the piece is the direct connection between the images from the cymascope and the live sound of the musicians: vibrations become visible in a water basin, where forms emerge—as if the music were drawing itself. Lighting designer Jurjen Alkema adds color and magic to this installation, in which the audience is enveloped by a bath of sound and light that makes both the tranquility and the power of water palpable.
According to the Australian Aboriginals, water can serve as a spiritual guide in life. In her work, Venegas gives voice to the ritual and healing power of water, especially in light of our current climate challenges and fragile ecosystems. In*Ur* , water and soundinteract directly with one another, and music and light merge into an immersive experience.

During this time, she worked intensively on her artistic and professional development and wrote two new compositions. The first, titled “Through their eyes,” premiered in 2025—performed by the Kronos Quartet at Tivoli Vredenburg. The second composition, titled “Ur,” was performed in its initial form at November Music 2025. The final version of “Ur” will be presented on May 24 at Music Meeting 2026.
Saskia Venegas’s development project was made possible by the New Makers Scheme of the Performing Arts Fund.
