DJ IBAAKU

About DJ IBAAKU

Raised on jazz and West African music, the versatile IBAAKU took his first steps in music through hip hop in the 1990s. The charismatic producer, multi-instrumentalist, composer, and DJ has collaborated with the best Senegalese hip-hop artists, such as Xuman and Keyti. IBAAKU is also one of the key figures in the group I-Science, a household name in the Senegalese hip-hop scene. But IBAAKU has an insatiable thirst for challenge and innovation. Music, fashion, visual arts, video, and all possible combinations of these artistic worlds are sources of inspiration for IBAAKU. His debut album Alien Cartoon from 2016 is a cult classic. It is a unique blend of hip hop and experimental electro with Senegalese influences and a nod to Flying Lotus and Sun Ra. IBAAKU originally composed the music as the soundtrack for a fashion show by Senegalese designer Selly Raby Kane (who collaborated with Beyoncé). Joola Jazz and Marjaan are some of his most recent albums. Step into the universe of IBAAKU.
