The drums themselves seem to spring up, overjoyed to be so played by her. Joy of playing characterizes the music of Korean drummer Sun-Mi Hong, for years a fixture in Dutch jazz. Her music is full of joy at the surprises she has to offer, but also full of melancholy. Exactly that is the exciting thing about Sun-Mi Hong's playing: the contrasts and fluid spirit, for her no rigid frameworks, everything instead exudes an infectious openness.
The spontaneity and thirst for adventure she shares with her band members. All of them, like Sun-Mi Hong, personalities who know that someone who has real character also dares to be vulnerable. And so her music is as unpredictable as a human being can be, as playfully unruly too and as warm.
For the upcoming edition, Sun-Mi Hong is artist in residence, which means she can be admired on Music Meeting Festival stages every festival day!
