"All the audience has to do is be there and let themselves go. Angolan-French singer Lucia de Carvalho's message is clear and by no means exaggerated: with her powerful, upbeat voice, well-oiled band and effervescent stage personality, she has everything for a musical feast.
De Carvalho's music is rooted in various traditions, but is entirely contemporary and, above all, tells her own story. In her youth, for example, she had to suddenly exchange Angola and her mother for a foster family in Alsace, France. Is that why De Carvalho sounds so vital and combative in her music? Perhaps. Either way, that music swings like crazy and brims with positive energy. Be there - that's all you have to do - and let yourself go. That, too, probably comes naturally.
