“I wish I’d been born in Havana in 1920, so I could have grown up with the son, mambo, and maybe even some early timba: modern Cuban salsa,” says artistic director Maite Hontelé. She actually grew up in an idyllic dike house by the River Waal in the village of Haaften. But she listened to Cuban music on cassettes almost daily and played along on her trumpet.
The love of Cuban culture and music is deeply rooted, and this year the Music Meeting organizers want to share it with all festival visitors. So we’ll be welcoming both established names and emerging talents from the influential Cuban music scene. And, as usual, artists from all corners of the world will grace the festival as well.

JUST CONFIRMED
The first names for Music Meeting Festival have been announced. This year’s Music Meeting Festival welcomes on stage the Cuban singer/bassist and recent Latin Grammy winner Alain Pérez y la Orquesta for his first Dutch performance with his complete orchestra; Osain del Monte, a 13-strong Cuban percussion and dance collective; and Ping Pong Piano, a Music Meeting production consisting of the four Cuban pianists Ivan 'Melón' Lewis, Ramón Valle, Marialy Pacheco and Rolando Luna. The festival programme also features performances by artists from all corners of the world, among them Damir Imamović, Rita Payés and Antibalas.
But the coming festival exudes a sense of Cuba off stage as well. That’s because the campaign image has been crafted in Cuba. Music Meeting worked on the poster design together with the renowned Cuban illustrator Nelson Ponce Sánchez.
