InScience Presents: An Unexpected Composer
- Monday 29 May 19:00 - 19:20 (ALL EARS AREA)
It is not usually the job of scientists to create new practices, but every now and then it happens.
Take Professor Eduardo Reck Miranda of ICCMR (Interdisciplinary Centre for Computer Music Research, Plymouth University), for example. He developed a system that allowed slime molds to contribute to music composition.
In the first film, Miranda explains how he developed his invention, while the second short shows an excerpt of the live debut performance of his slime mold produced piano piece. With all the talk about the AI’s increasing influence on art creation this shows that other organisms can also provide new roads for music to take.
