Bonsai Panda

As fine as it is strange

Bonsai Panda

As fine as it is strange

A tree that hardly grows, an animal that reproduces with great difficulty: you might think that the five men of Bonsai Panda want to preemptively temper expectations of this new band. But that would be unjustified, because their short-term memory music is an exciting blend of jazz, rock and classical music.

The energy bursts from the songs, simply because the men quickly forget what they were doing and certainly don’t follow any long-term musical planning. And between all the bouncing around, they have fine melodies and surprising timbres up their sleeve. With drums, guitar, trombone, French horn and clarinet, it is no wonder that Bonsai Panda is something out of the ordinary. This line-up is a sign that the musicians like to bring extremes together. Which is why their music varies between jolly and deadly serious, between full speed ahead and rest where needed, between composition and improvisation, and
between daring and vulnerable. The men of Bonsai Panda need not be cautious about their future: though a Bonsai tree remains small, it lives for a very long time. And pairing pandas finally succeeded.

Jelle Roozenburg – guitar
Louk Boudesteijn – trombone
David Kweksilber – clarinet
Roman Bly – French horn
